How do you explain a week with 120 active women performing beautifully? In a word? Amazing. In more than a word, well... This weekend I was blessed to exercise, train, taste wine and get to know some pretty fantastic women. In an effort to showcase just who and what the Oakley active woman is all about, 120 women from across the country and even the globe gathered in Napa California to perform beautifully. Swagged out in the newest Oakley active apparel and eyewear we took this sleepy town by storm. After learning all about Oakley's newest product and our passion for outfitting the active woman in product that not only helps her pefrom, but protects her and makes her feel good about heself, the action started. We laced up some new Ascics, located the satelites on our new Garmin Forerunners and ran a 5k through Trefethen Vineyards, in my opinion one of the most beautiful 5k's you could possibly run. Next on the list was getting sized up for our Trek bikes and setting of on an 8.2 mile bike ride through the town stopping for some wine tasting at Black Stallion, Astrale e Terra and Cliff Lede wineries. All of which provided such amazing views, wine and hospitality, you'd think we were all regulars in Napa. The next day started with a drive in some borrowed Toyota vehcles (mine a Forerunner that I got to drive myself) to our morning Booty Call led by the gals from Tone It Up in which we got our workout in with a few dance breaks here and there. From there we made a stop at the Culinary Institute of American Greystone for a course in nutrition with Oakley athlete Jenny Fletcher and Oakley Ambassadar Marni Sumbal. This was probably my favorite part. We not only got to learn how to fuel out bodies we got to know how to make good food. Marni's motto "don't lecture people, inspire people" and she did just that with her and Jenny's recipes and inside tips. My favorite line was "Food. Enjoy it, don't eat it! Savor it, don't devour it." The day wasn't even over yet! Next we took a hike at the state park and then did a little more wine tasting. To top the night off we got to share a fantastic dinner with all of the ladies who were now old friends. And you know what old friends do at the end of a good weekend? They dance! And that is just what we did. Maybe this sounds like just a girly weekend to you but it was so much more. These women all put themselves out there, for many, a 5k was a daunting task they never imagined they would take on. For others, a bike ride was something they did 10, 20, 30 plus years ago. For most of us this meant conquering fears and pushing our bodies more than we have in a long time. some of us were inspired and educated on how to better take care of ourselves inside and out. But mostly, in my humble opinion, it was a weekend of building the spirit of women. Reminding us that being "active" is a state of mind. WE decide what active means for us, nobody else. We got to push and support by telling each other we can do it, lifting each other up instead of pulling each other down and pushing our bodies to the limit in a way that didn't make you want to cuss out your trainer or throw you running shoes in the garbage. We were 120 strong women, active women, beautiful women. And THAT is what Performing Beautifully is all about. Check it out.
